5. Shuggie Otis - Happy House (1974 Epic Records)
6. Keni Burke - Risin' to the Top (1982 RCA Records)

Here!

This is my first mix so it's a little rough but nonetheless complete and groovy. I have covered high tempo, reggae, ska, breakbeat hardcore techno, house, outsider gospel, experimental soul and chilled out 80's soul. Mad Professor protoge Joe Ariwa begins with an addicting high tempo reggae track. And underneath it is a classic by Rocksteady/ Ska musician, Derrick Morgan. One of the most obscure artists here, Christoph de Babalon, has made a menacing record from Hell with his If You're Into it, I'm Out of it from 1997. It's long, brooding and achieves the one genre of music I'd like to see more of (ambient techno with hardcore breakbeats). I really like this next song by Herbert. He has always been inspirational to me due to his use of found objects. But this one is simply pretty because of its use of minor 9th piano chords. Another experimental track is by Otis G. Jackson, a guy from Detroit who made gospel music with a drum machine, a hammond organ and his voice. It's totally lo-fi and chilled out for the 70's. Shuggie Otis would qualify here too because there is a bit of proto-ambient music in his funk. Finally, Keni Burke arises from the 5 Stairsteps a decade earlier and makes some of the best proto-chillwave of the 80's (if you want more of this listen to The Style Council and Sheila Chandra). This is about a two minute sample from the 5 minute masterpiece.
